Universal Studios will build a new themed area of rides, shops and restaurants called "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" at its Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando Florida.
Land taken from the Lost Continent and land that is now used for employee parking and park support will comprise the 20-acre “seventh island.”
Much of The Lost Continent area, including Mythos Restaurant, will be retained as a separate themed area, just smaller. However some current attractions such as Dueling Dragons and the Flying Unicorn roller coasters will likely be adapted to fit the Harry Potter story.
Expected to open in late 2009 the new environment will feature immersive rides, interactive attractions, shops and restaurants. Universal has promised a new state of the art attraction that will bring magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in an exciting way that guests have never before experienced.
The heavily themed B&M inverted coaster, Dueling Dragons, opened with the park in June of 1999. The Flying Unicorn, a themed and expanded Vekoma roller skater opened 13 months later.
