Some of the mystery surrounding Lagoon's new ride has just been revealed. The massive construction project that has been taking shape in the north end of the park now has a name – Cannibal - and it will debut for the 2015 season.
Riders will be lifted 208 feet on a vertical lift and plunge into a free fall, at a break-over angle of 116 degrees, into an underground tunnel. The $22 million roller coaster will have a 12-seat train which will reach a maximum speed of 70 mph and traverse a course which includes three inversions. There will also be a secret thrill element that will not be revealed until the ride opens.
The project has been in the planning stages for years and has been under construction for about two years. A March 2015 opening is planned.
