Knoebels Readies Impulse for Opening Day Debut

Knoebels Amusement Resort's newest roller coaster should be ready to ride when the park reopens April 25. Steel work on Impulse, the fifth coaster at the Elysburg, Pennsylvania, park and the most expensive project in the history of the park, is almost finished.

The steel-towered coaster will consist of more than 2,000 feet of track and take riders on a variety of twists and loops at speeds of up to 55 mph. Three cars, each with two rows of four seats, will climb a 98-foot vertical hill, which will be followed by a 90-degree free-fall drop.

This will be Knoebels' first roller coaster since Whirlwind was removed in 2004 in which riders will be turned upside down. Impulse has a 360-degree roll, during which where the center of the car rotates on one axis. The cars will have lap bar restraints instead of the over-the-shoulder type.

Impulse is in the area formerly occupied by the bumper boats and boat tag rides.

The park will be open only on weekends beginning April 25 until full-time operation resumes May 20.
