Universal Orlando, citing recent injuries on Dragon Challenge (the Bolliger & Mabillard pair of inverted coasters formerly known as Dueling Dragons), this week has permanently ended the simultaneous dispatching of the two trains. The attraction at Islands of Adventure will now be billed as "a high-speed chase between two coasters."
During an internal investigation, the dual launch was temporarily halted after two summer accidents occurred in which riders were apparently struck by loose objects while aboard the attraction. One resulted in the loss of a rider's eye, and two weeks later another person reported being struck by something in the foot, arm and face.
The coasters opened in 1999 as Dueling Dragons, but were given a new, Harry Potter-themed overlay in 2010 when it was incorporated into the park's Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
