A race car engine roars, and passengers slowly creep in reverse aboard the new Rewind Racers roller coaster at Adventure City, Anaheim, California. The linked seven cars then glide forward, sending riders through a swooping maze of twists and turns.
The coaster stops briefly, then makes the same journey in reverse.
After going through a soft opening over the last few weeks, Rewind Racers officially rolls into action Saturday, June 6, 2015, as the newest ride to open at the park, which caters to families with children up to age 12.
Construction began in September 2014 on the $2 million roller coaster, manufactured by German-based Gerstlauer Amusement Rides GMBH. The height requirement for riders is only 39 inches. With a height of 40 feet, and with 600 feet of track, Rewind Racers reaches a top speed of up to 28 mph.
Rewind Racers replaces Tree Top Racers, a coaster that had been at the park since 1999. The new roller coaster celebrates a quasi-NASCAR theme, complete with checkered flags and televised safety instructions provided by a character known as Max the Mechanic.
