Clarence Hintze was ACE's first treasurer and membership director, serving in those positions from 1978 to 1982. Many members from those days recall receiving their first correspondence from ACE written to them personally from Clarence.
ACE founder and first president Richard Munch (holder of membership number 1) noted that Clarence Hintze (membership number 4) was largely responsible for ACE's surviving its first formative years through his dedicated work for the club. In the early 2000s, Clarence returned to attend ACE events at Richard Munch's urging and was at last awarded an Honorary Membership.
A lifelong resident of Chicago, Hintze was 93 at the time of his passing on July 17, 2015.
