Alton Towers, Staffordshire, England, has named it The Smiler. Their latest rollercoaster cost £18million ($27.6 million USD) and has entered the Guinness Book of Records for being the ride with the most loops – 14. And unless you're very, very brave, the chances of smiling when you come off it seem remote.
The Smiler, which opens in May, has drops of 98 feet, reaches speeds of up to 52 mph and was designed with the help of psychologists and scientists for maximum thrills. The idea was to have people "get off the ride and not know what is real." The coaster will put both your body and your mind through its paces. Some effects are definitely designed to mess with your head.
At twice the size of Nemesis, a ride on The Smiler lasts 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
The Smiler beats the 10-loop Colossus in Thorpe Park, Surrey, England, and 10 Inversion Roller Coaster at Chimelong Paradise in China to become the rollercoaster with the most loops.
