On Thursday May 22, Adrenaline Family Entertainment, Inc. announced the acquisition of Alabama Adventure in Bessemer, Alabama. Adrenaline Family Entertainment is an amusement park operating company led by a team of former senior Six Flags Inc. executives and majority owned by Angelo, Gordon & Co., a New York-based investment management firm.
Alabama Adventure opened as Visionland in 1998, and struggled the first few years of operation. In May of 2002, VisionLand’s bondholders foreclosed on the park, and for the 2002 season only the water park portion opened, with amusement park section sitting idle. Southland Entertainment, LLC, acquired the park in October of 2002, and invested substantial capital, including new rides and attractions. Southland will now turn its attention and resources to the development of the adjacent 157 acre parcel for which preliminary development plans include a hotel/indoor waterpark project, a possible RV park project and other commercial and retail development.
Alabama Adventure is the second amusement park that has been acquired by Adrenaline Family Entertainment. Last year the firm purchased Clementon Park and Splash World in New Jersey.
Alabama Adventure is home to Rampage a popular CCI wooden coaster that opened with the park in 1998, along with Marvel Mania a Miler junior coaster. In 2005 Zoomerang, a Vekoma Boomerang was added to the coaster lineup.
