Roller Coaster Group to Hold National Convention at Six Flags Over Texas & Sandy Lake Park

ARLINGTON & CARROLTON, TX – Hundreds of roller coaster enthusiasts from across the United States and Canada will descend upon Six Flags Over Texas and Sandy Lake Amusement Park to celebrate Coaster Con XXXIV June 19-22, 2011. The four-day celebration of all things roller coaster, the 34th annual convention of American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) will be held Sunday to Wednesday at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington during their 50th Anniversary season, with a special Tuesday morning visit to Sandy Lake Amusement Park in Carrolton. Highlights of the convention will include hours and hours of riding roller coasters while they are closed to the public as well as a very special Six Flags Over Texas 50th Anniversary panel discussion including park leaders who date back to the park's earliest days in the 1960s.

The steel coaster aficionados in attendance are eager to get their fill of floating "airtime" sensations, spinetingling inversions and exhilarating bursts of speed during the Exclusive Ride Time (ERT) sessions on Six Flags Over Texas' coasters such as the iconic Titan, powerful Mr. Freeze and the reborn coaster legend - the New Texas Giant, which had a widely acclaimed debut this April. On the morning of Tuesday, June 21, the members of ACE will visit Sandy Lake Amusement Park - "Dallas' most complete group picnic location" - to celebrate the park's classic attractions such as the Herschell Little Dipper kiddie coaster, authentic Pretzel dark ride and outlandish mini-golf course. Many are here for other reasons too. Attendees will enjoy camaraderie with like-minded people and share stories of coasters ridden in all corners of the world as many ACE members have traveled to Europe, Central America and Asia to enjoy that next great thrill. Anywhere there is a coaster, you will find an ACEer. The madcap Midway Olympics, an annual tradition, will pit teams of five against each other with the goal of being the best at wacky carnival games such as Whack-a-Mole and basketball free throw. There will be picnics, contests, surprises and even a General Store featuring club-related materials from T-shirts to license plate frames as well as other vendor booths with roller coaster-related items.

The convention will peak with a banquet at the convention hotel on Wednesday, June 22, featuring a very special Six Flags Over Texas 50th Anniversary panel of park leaders dating back to Six Flags Over Texas' roots in the 1960s. The discussion will be lead by Six Flags Over Texas President, Steve Martindale. ACE president Dave Altman stated, "We are honored and pleased that Mr. Martindale will be leading a lively discussion with a distinguished group of leaders who were instrumental in the park's growth and development. This rare event will be enlightening and entertaining." Former keynote speakers have included heads of amusement park companies, the president of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, and roller coaster designers.
