American Coaster Enthusiasts' Preservation Conference Set for
Six Flags Great America, Little Amerricka and Bay Beach Park

American Coaster Enthusiasts to designate a Landmark steel coaster and enjoy Elvis' favorite ride.

GURNEE, IL; MARSHALL, WI and GREEN BAY, WI – 130 roller coaster enthusiasts from across the U.S. will traverse between Six Flags Great America (August 10), Little Amerricka (August 11) and Bay Beach Park (August 12) to recognize these parks for their acts of coaster preservation. The three-day celebration is the annual preservation conference of American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE), which will be held Friday through Sunday at three parks full of thrills, character and history. A prime feature of the conference will be multiple hours of riding the three parks' wood and steel roller coasters.

Steel coaster fans in attendance, eager to get their fill of hair-raising inversions and exhilarating surges of speed on Six Flags Great America's new X Flight wing coaster, will get "first in line" privileges and be able to enjoy the park's other 12 coasters, including the historic Little Dipper, which the park saved and gave a new home in 2010. Wood coaster aficionados attending ACE's salute to roller coaster preservation are also looking forward to experiencing nostalgic, weightless "airtime" sensations during the Exclusive Ride Time (ERT) sessions on Meteor, which Little Amerricka saved from extinction in 2007, and Elvis Presley's favorite coaster, Zippin Pippin, now operating at Beach Bay Park. ACE provided financial support to help ensure the famed coaster's reconstruction at Bay Beach Park. Meteor and Little Dipper were relocated from two former Chicago area parks, Hillcrest Park and Kiddieland. Attendees will enjoy camaraderie with like-minded people and share stories of coasters ridden in all corners of the world as many ACE members have traveled to Europe, Central America and Asia. Anywhere there is a coaster, you will find an ACEer.

A highlight of the event will take place the afternoon of Friday, August 10, when the members of ACE will present a monument plaque to Six Flags Great America designating the park's iconic steel coaster, Whizzer, as an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark. Designed by engineer Werner Stengel (1936- ) and manufactured by the legendary Anton Schwarzkopf (1926-2001), Whizzer is the last remaining large, steel, custom-built Schwarzkopf "Speedracer" coaster in North America. Originally named Willard's Whizzer after Marriott founder J. Willard Marriott when the park opened as Marriott's Great America on May 29, 1976, its name was shortened to just Whizzer in the 1980s. Six Flags Great America has done a commendable job preserving and maintaining Whizzer, much to the delight of the unique coaster's multi-generational fan base. The ACE Landmark Coaster designation is a rare and coveted award as only a small number of coasters have earned this status denoting their position in the amusement industry as historically significant. Whizzer is joining Batman the Ride, which was designated an ACE Roller Coaster Landmark in 2005. This makes Six Flags Great America among a select group of parks, and the first Six Flags park, to receive two such awards.

More information on the event is available at About ACE: Founded in 1978, ACE is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion, appreciation and safe enjoyment of roller coasters. With more than 5,300 members across the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia, ACE is the largest amusement park enthusiast organization in the world. Members of ACE receive bi-monthly newsletters, quarterly magazines, as well as the opportunity to attend several national and local coaster events at parks each year. Numerous magazines, newspapers, radio stations and shows made for cable networks such as the Travel Channel have prominently featured ACE.
